This is by far one of my favorite photos I've taken, not because of the photographic qualities, but because of the story, lesson, and impact behind the photo.
The Day of Remembrance serves to be a reminder of the grave injustices of Executive Order 9066 faced by the Japanese American community and it's lasting affects on the families, communities, and the country.
Executive Order 9066 is an example of where the U.S.'s democracy is flawed and plagued by racism and power divisions. When all three branches of the government fail to uphold the constitution and take away the constitutional rights of individuals, we has a society has fallen into the hands of the few in power, effectively ending our democracy.
When you take away a voice of a community, you ARE no longer a democracy. It's everyone's duty to ensure voices are heard, whether you agree with them or not.
